QUATIC'98 – the 3rd Meeting on the Quality of Information and Communication Technologies – took place at the University of Minho, at the Azurém campus in Guimarães, from 4 to 6 November, 1998. A program committee, including 36 members both from academia and industry, led the paper review and selection process. The best papers were selected for inclusion in a journal (Revista da Associação Portuguesa de Sistemas de Informação).
Once again, this meeting was a space for discussion on the Quality area in information and communication technologies (ICTs). Advanced methods, techniques, tools and case studies in various contexts were presented and discussed. Practitioners and researchers exchanged ideas and approaches on how to adopt a Quality culture, both in terms of product and process in ICTs. The program included 3 keynotes, 17 communications and 4 panels, as well as an enjoyable social program. QUATIC'98 was sponsored by Edinfor, IPQ, PEDIP II, INESC, Instituto de Informática (Ministry of Finance), CGD, Optimus, ICP, Eurociber Portugal, Siemens, Alcatel, Microsoft and Telepac.
QUATIC’s steering committee – CS03 – the ICT Sectorial Commission of the National Council for Quality, which is based in the Portuguese Institute for Quality (IPQ), given the success of the first three editions, decided that this event should walk the internationalization route. Therefore, in the next edition we will allow submissions in Portuguese, Spanish and English. It was also decided to keep the triennial periodicity, so mark your calendar for QUATIC'2001, which will return to Lisbon!
We look forward meeting you in the next edition of QUATIC!
